Changing the naturalization period, especially without a transition period, can have a profound impact on the lives of many families and individuals. A few years ago, we all decided, following the existing rules, to choose the Netherlands over other countries. Now, overnight, everything will change, and we will need to consider staying in the country or relocating somewhere else again.
Increasing the duration also doesn't guarantee better integration; instead, it might delay the process since people assume they have more time to do it later.
