Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to raise my concerns regarding the proposal to lengthen the naturalization period for expats from five to ten years.

In 2023, I relocated to the Netherlands under a Highly Skilled Migrant visa, drawn by its reputation as a forward-looking and welcoming country. To me, the Netherlands has always stood for opportunity, innovation, and stability—qualities embodied by companies like ASML, Booking.com, TomTom, and Philips.

Since then, I have built my life here, working in the technology sector, paying my taxes in full, and investing in a home. These commitments reflect the trust I placed in the Netherlands as a place where long-term contributions are valued.

If the waiting time for naturalization were doubled, that trust would be undermined. Such a change would make the Netherlands less appealing to international professionals at a moment when many other countries are working hard to attract them. Personally, I would be forced to reconsider my future here if this measure were adopted.

It is important to distinguish between expats who actively support the Dutch economy and society and those who do not. A one-size-fits-all approach is neither just nor beneficial for the country’s growth.

For these reasons, I urge you to maintain the five-year path to citizenship and avoid introducing a change that could weaken the Netherlands’ reputation as a trusted and innovative destination for global talent.

Best Regards
