Highly skilled migrants contribute enormous value to the Netherlands through taxable income, specialised skills, and innovation, yet extending the naturalisation period from 5 to 10 years unfairly delays when we can fully integrate and participate in civic life. After 3-5 years many expats are already well-integrated: speaking the language, working in Dutch companies, raising children in Dutch schools, contributing above what they receive in many social benefits. Delaying naturalisation undermines social stability, discourages long-term commitment, risks brain drain, sends negative signals to families, and reduces the Netherlands’ attractiveness to global talent just when its economy needs it.
