I understand that governments may want to review and adjust immigration and naturalization policies, but extending the naturalization period from 5 to 10 years for everyone equally could have unintended negative effects.

Highly skilled migrants, international graduates, and long-term contributors to Dutch society already invest years of their lives here - working, paying taxes, integrating, and building a future. A 10-year wait risks discouraging talented people from choosing the Netherlands as a long-term home.

Naturalization is not only a legal process; it is also a strong signal of belonging and commitment. By doubling the waiting time, the policy might create more uncertainty and reduce motivation for integration, rather than supporting it.

A more balanced approach could be to keep the 5-year period for those who are clearly contributing and integrating, while applying different criteria where there are specific concerns. This way, the Netherlands remains both welcoming and selective without discouraging the very people it aims to attract.
