Extending the naturalization period from 5 to 10 years is not a beneficial change. Increasing the waiting time does not by itself ensure better integration into society. Experience shows that even individuals from families established for multiple generations—sometimes the fourth generation—may still struggle to fully integrate. Conversely, there are many open-minded and forward-thinking people who can adapt and become active members of society almost immediately after arriving. The key factor in successful integration is the individual’s mindset and willingness to engage with the community, rather than simply the length of time they have been present.
Lengthening the naturalization period may unintentionally discourage highly skilled, motivated, and culturally adaptable people from seeking citizenship here. These individuals are likely to find opportunities in other countries where the process is more accessible and where they can actively contribute to decision-making and social development sooner. By imposing longer waiting periods, the country risks closing doors to valuable talent and perspectives that could enrich society. Ultimately, integration should focus on encouraging openness, participation, and mutual understanding instead of relying on extended residency requirements to guarantee social cohesion.
