Extending the naturalization period from five to ten years is unjust and unacceptable. Skilled migrants came to the Netherlands under the promise of a five-year path to citizenship. On this basis, they brought their families, put children in Dutch schools, paid high taxes, and worked hard to integrate.

Changing the rules now breaks that promise. It undermines trust in the Dutch government, damages integration, and leaves families and children in uncertainty. At the very least, this must not apply to people already living in the Netherlands under the current rules.

This proposal is unfair, harmful, and should be rejected.
