I am strongly opposed to extending the citizenship period to 10 years. Beyond being an unnecessary barrier to integration, this policy is economically shortsighted. The Netherlands is in a global race for talent, and a swift, clear path to citizenship is a major factor for highly skilled workers choosing where to build their lives. By doubling the wait time, we are effectively telling the world's best and brightest to go elsewhere. We cannot afford this self-inflicted brain drain; the term must remain at 5 years.
