When I moved to the Netherlands, I did so with the understanding that after 5 years of residence, I could apply for Dutch citizenship. This expectation played a very important role in my decision to build a long-term future here. Changing the requirement to 10 years would not only delay the security and stability that citizenship provides but also affect the confidence of skilled professionals who chose the Netherlands in good faith.

Highly skilled migrants are already actively integrating into Dutch society. We work, pay taxes, contribute to the economy, and participate in communities from the very beginning of our stay. Citizenship after 5 years recognises these contributions and supports deeper integration. Extending the period to 10 years risks creating uncertainty and discouraging talented individuals who want to fully commit their future to the Netherlands.

I kindly ask the government to reconsider this proposal and maintain the current 5-year requirement, which strikes a fair balance between integration and opportunity.
