Dear Sir/Madam,
Subject: Opposition to Extending Naturalization Period to 10 Years.
I strongly oppose the proposal to extend the naturalisation period from 5 to 10 years. This change would place the Netherlands among the most restrictive countries globally and risks undermining its reputation as an inclusive, forward-looking society.
A 10-year requirement would discourage skilled migrants from settling here which will in return have aNegative Impact on Tax Base and Economy. Skilled Migrants contribute significantly to the Dutch economy. Delaying citizenship delays full civic participation and may reduce long-term retention of economically active residents. Longer waiting periods do not improve integration. In fact, they: • Delay access to rights and responsibilities. • Increase social exclusion and alienation. • Create administrative burdens for both migrants and the state. The current 5-year period strikes a reasonable balance between integration and inclusion.
Netherlands wants to invest in biotech, fintech and the chip sector, because that's the core of its earning potential. So by being tougher on HSM would push companies like ASML away.
Lastly, Netherlands has an ageing population and need young skilled people to contribute to the system. The Netherlands must remain competitive and compassionate in a global landscape where talent and diversity are assets.
