Extending the time from 5 years to 10 years for citizenship will harm the economy of the Netherlands. Here is why:
International students in their 1st or 2nd year will move to other countries, and Dutch universities will face a shortage of students. No Master's, PhD, or Bachelor's student will be willing to wait 10 years in the Netherlands just to become a citizen.
New students will choose not to come to the Netherlands, as they have better options in countries like Australia, Ireland, and Germany.
Tuition fees in the Netherlands are already very high, so existing students will move to more affordable and attractive destinations.
Within 1–3 years, the Netherlands will face a severe brain drain problem.
Highly skilled migrants, who are the backbone of the Dutch economy, will leave. Since they are already skilled, other countries will accept them quickly. This is the most dangerous threat to the Dutch economy.
Companies will relocate their offices from the Netherlands to other countries, something that is already happening now.
People who are capable will, of course, leave the Netherlands. This is common sense.
The senior citizen population is growing, and without enough young workers, almost everything we use will be imported from abroad—mostly from China. Philips is already a prime example of it.
