I oppose the proposal to extend the naturalisation period from five to ten years. This change would have serious negative consequences for people who have lived, worked, and contributed here for years. A longer wait discourages integration and keeps people in prolonged uncertainty. Five years is a reasonable period to demonstrate commitment and participation; ten years is excessive and unnecessarily strict.

I came to the Netherlands to study and have since built my life here, relying on the clearly understood five-year pathway to citizenship. Changing that threshold now undermines legal certainty and trust. People plan their futures based on the rules in force when they arrive. Moving the goalposts makes integration harder, not easier. Please keep the naturalisation period at five years.
