I agree with the proposed extension of the naturalization period to ten years as outlined in the coalition program and reflected in this bill. However, I would like to emphasize that there should be fair consideration for individuals who have already completed their civic integration exam and have been legally residing in the Netherlands for several years.

I moved to the Netherlands in 2021 and am currently in my fifth year of legal residence. According to my municipality (gemeente), I am eligible to apply for naturalization before June 1, 2026. I completed my civic integration exam early, in 2024, and have a record of this achievement. I hope that under the proposed changes, cases like mine—where all current requirements have already been met—will not be negatively affected or delayed due to the extension. Recognizing these circumstances would promote fairness and acknowledge the efforts of residents who have already demonstrated their commitment to integration.
