Hi,
Extending from 5 to 10 years for the naturalization will not have the impact that is expected. Since I live in the Netherlands I’ve met a lot of people mostly from EU countries refusing to integrate, people that is been here more than 6-8 years and don’t even know how to speak the language. I been here for less than that and my level of dutch is A2 and going up.
Integration does not have to do with how many years you are in a country, it’s about participating and being part of a society. Making this change will affect legal immigrants like the high skilled migrants and demotivate people that is integrating or have interest on doing it.
If you really want people to integrate this can be through programs that make expats interact directly in the society. Events or certain amount of hours of volunteering in different areas of the Dutch system could help to understand more about it and feeling part of it but increasing the years to naturalization do not motivate people to integrate and could increase the social distance between the expats and nationals.
