I absolutely disagree with proposal to make naturalisation longer. There is no any proven data that this will bring benefits to the country. The rationale about “tighter bonds” has no any base behind. Why 5 years is short, but 10 is good enough? It feels like speculation and spending resources somewhere where there is no clear need. Netherlands is a country with ages of history of being this centre of democracy, minorities support, equality and liberal views. People from all around the world who SHARED these values came to the country to contribute to its growth. Why now this need to be stopped? Does Netherlands government want to change its historical values and base beliefs, to make it more isolated and unreachable, to reduce diversity and reject advantage it brings? In the dynamic world like this it is sometimes impossible to live 10 years non-stop in the same county. Sometimes you lose a job and need to get a job somewhere else - wherever it is available, while your family is in the Netherlands. Isn’t this a way like Dutch people do- they travel and work around the world sometimes changing the place every 5 years. Next step is to limit citizenship right of Dutch people who interrupt their living in the country during 10 years ? This is wrong, isolating approach for no proven good reason. Netherlands need to stay as it is and keep 5 years for naturalisation.
