As an expat who has built my life in the Netherlands, purchasing a home, paying taxes, and integrating into the community. I strongly oppose extending the naturalisation requirement from 5 to 10 years. The current 5-year standard already ensures commitment through language, integration, and civic exams, while giving residents the ability to fully participate in Dutch society sooner. Doubling the timeline risks discouraging talent, delaying integration, and creating a two-tier society of long-term taxpayers without full rights. The Netherlands should remain open, fair, and competitive internationally, and the 5-year path reflects those values.
