As someone who has dedicated years to building a life, career, and community here, I find the proposal to extend the naturalization period from 5 to 10 years deeply discouraging. Citizenship is not simply a legal status – it represents belonging, stability, and the opportunity to contribute to society on equal footing. Many of us already work, pay taxes, integrate, and raise families in the Netherlands. To double the waiting time feels like moving the goalposts for people who have shown nothing but commitment and loyalty. I strongly believe fair play means recognizing this dedication rather than extending the uncertainty for another five years
