It's unrealistic to believe that this measure will solve the housing crisis or significantly reduce the number of asylum applications.
For many refugees, a 10-year stay is still seen as a valuable opportunity. Meanwhile, highly skilled migrants and other types of international workers may choose to leave the Netherlands as a result. Have we considered the consequences of that? Take ASML, for example — a company of its scale could easily relocate to France, potentially leaving thousands unemployed and dealing a serious blow to the Dutch economy.
