I came to the Netherlands in 2022 on a Highly Skilled Migrant visa. I chose the Netherlands because of a welcoming expat community, tax arrangements such as the 30% ruling, and the clear expectation that I could apply for Dutch citizenship after five years. Since arriving I have integrated into Dutch society, am fully employed, and contribute to the Dutch economy through my work and taxes.

Extending the naturalisation period to ten years would be a major obstacle for people like me who are already doing everything they can to contribute to society and build a future here. Integration is not promoted by leaving people longer in uncertainty. Dutch citizenship is a reward for commitment and involvement, not something that should be unnecessarily postponed.

For these reasons I urge to maintain the current 5 year period.
