Extending the naturalization period to ten years is a step backward. It weakens integration, disadvantages families and children, undervalues contributions to Dutch society, undermines democratic principles, and risks harming the Netherlands’ international standing. A more constructive approach would be to maintain the current five-year period and focus on improving integration support, language training, and civic education, which strengthen both individuals and society as a whole.
