I strongly oppose the proposal to extend the Dutch naturalization period from 5 to 10 years.
The 5-year requirement already ensures that migrants integrate, learn the language, and contribute socially and economically. Extending it to 10 years would:
• Unfairly impact families and children who need stability and belonging.
• Create uncertainty for those who have already planned their lives under the current rules.
• Discourage skilled migrants and workers who contribute to the Dutch economy.
• Make the Netherlands less attractive compared to other EU countries with shorter timelines.
A 5-year period is a fair balance between integration and recognition. Extending to 10 years only delays inclusion without real benefit to society.
