Greetings,

I am writing to respectfully object to the proposal to extend the naturalization period for expats from five years to ten years.

I moved to the Netherlands in 2022 on a Highly Skilled Migrant visa, attracted by the country’s reputation as a welcoming and innovative place to live and work. To me, the Netherlands has always represented growth and progress, with companies such as ASML, Adyen, Booking.com, ING, and Philips as clear examples.

Since my arrival, I have contributed to the Dutch economy through my work in the technology sector, received a good salary, and paid all required taxes. I also invested in an apartment here, motivated by my trust in the Netherlands as a stable and reliable country for the future.

Extending the naturalization period would seriously damage that trust. It would discourage international talent from choosing the Netherlands and, if applied, I would be left with no choice but to leave the country. At a time when other nations are actively competing to attract skilled workers, such a measure would send the wrong signal and undermine the innovative mindset for which the Netherlands is known.

There should be a clear distinction between expats who contribute to society and the economy, and those who do not. Treating all cases in the same way is neither fair nor beneficial for the country.

I therefore strongly urge you to reconsider this proposal and maintain the five-year pathway to citizenship, so that the Netherlands can continue to be seen as an attractive and trusted destination for global talent.

Best regards
