Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my concern about the proposed amendment to the Kingdom Act on Dutch Citizenship, which would extend the naturalization period from five to ten years.
While I understand the intention behind this change, i find it deeply disturbing to all the residents including myself who have lived here already for the past 4 years and approaching the application period of 5 years on an HSM visa . These are common people or a family where in both husband and wife works odd jobs to take care of their children, pay taxes who have abided by all dutch cultures, law of society even though they have faced racial and other behaviours from colleagues in their work places since they dont have a dutch passport or in hope that they will get one soon as per the 5 year law . Their only intention was and is to remain and show their commitment to the dutch society and culture already. If the new law comes into effect it shatters the dream of my family or others by having to wait in this waiting game .
I urge you to please rethink this decison since this will result in a lot of people in a confusion including myself and my family with unwanted stress since we are already living here and have integrated to the language exams . Its as if we dont have a future here and its just work and paying taxes and putting unwanted blame on migrants like us who work our asses off to put food on the table . There is no gurantee now that in the future after 10 years another law comes in.
This is never a complaint but i put honest facts in front of the jury. I am just being honest here and a common resident who pay his taxes, work hard , abide by the law and respect all dutch people and others equally as per laid out in the dutch constitution. We chose to come to the netherlands since we feel the Nederlands always stands by expat people and be an example to other international countries to retain top talent in the world.
