U kunt op de gehele regeling en memorie van toelichting reageren.
I migrated to the Netherlands in 2022 with a Resident Permit as a Highly Skilled Migrant with the understanding that the path to Dutch citizenship through naturalization would take five years. Many people, including myself, make life-changing decisions such as moving countries, taking up employment, and investing in long-term commitments like buying a house on mortgage, based on these established laws. Changing the rules retroactively is unfair to those who already made these commitments under the existing framework.
Citizenship provides not only stability and security but also a sense of belonging after contributing to society for several years. Extending the naturalization term to ten years prolongs uncertainty and places undue pressure on migrants to remain dependent on their employers for a much longer period. Such a measure risks discouraging skilled professionals from choosing the Netherlands as their long-term home.
I therefore respectfully urge you to reconsider this proposal and ensure that those who have already migrated under the current five-year expectation are not adversely affected.
