This new proposed rule will heavily impact me and my partner as highly-skilled immigrants who dreamt about coming to the Netherlands for a better life and contribute to the society. One of the main ways that this country feels like home is to be treated the same as natural-born people here and having the fear of this rule that even after 5 years and contributing to the economy we're still treated as residents, not citizens, makes us think that the government has no plans for highly-skilled migrants and wants to makes everything harder for them. With this new rule we need to reconsider our pan which we planned for more than 10 years ago and start a new life somewhere, so basically both ours and governments investments on us will go to waste. And as far as I know, I'm not the only one with this issue but rather many big companies within Netherlands that will face huge issues in recruiting highly-skilled migrants.
