I respectfully urge the government to apply the proposed 10-year naturalization rule only to new immigrants entering after the law takes effect, not retroactively to those already residing in the Netherlands under the current 5-year expectation.

Highly skilled migrants contribute significantly to Dutch society and the economy. They often pay higher taxes, fill critical labor gaps, and integrate quickly through work, education, and community involvement. Extending the naturalization timeline retroactively risks alienating this group and may reduce the Netherlands’ attractiveness to future talent—especially in sectors facing shortages.

A fair transition policy would preserve trust and ensure the Netherlands remains competitive in attracting global expertise.
