The current 5-year rule already balances integration and fairness. Extending it to 10 years would harm both residents and the Netherlands:
1. Economy & Workforce – The country needs skilled workers. A longer wait pushes talent to other EU states, hurting competitiveness.
2. Integration – Citizenship motivates people to learn Dutch, work, and contribute. Delaying it discourages integration.
3. Families & Children – Settled families face more uncertainty, and children growing up here are disadvantaged.
4. Proven Commitment – After 5 years, people have shown they work, pay taxes, and contribute. Extra years add no value.
5. Inequality – A 10-year wait creates “second-class” residents without equal rights, harming trust and cohesion.
Conclusion: Keep the 5-year rule. It supports integration, family stability, and a stronger Dutch economy.
