I understand the government’s wish to regulate immigration, and applying a longer naturalisation period for newcomers may be reasonable. However, extending the requirement from 5 to 10 years for people who are already living, integrating, and contributing here is unfair. Many of us have invested years in learning Dutch, building community ties (through work, church, etc.,), and planning our futures on the current 5-year framework. Changing the rules midway creates insecurity, discourages integration, and risks alienating people who are already committed to Dutch society. Please consider applying this change only to new arrivals, not to those who are already on the path.
