I disagree with this bill. The proposed extension of the naturalization period from five to ten years raises serious concerns for the Netherlands’ future as an open and competitive society.
1. Economic competitiveness – A longer waiting period makes the Netherlands less attractive to skilled migrants and students, weakening the knowledge economy.
2. Social integration – Five years is already sufficient for genuine integration; extending it only increases distance and leaves people contributing to society without full rights.
3. Demographic and workforce needs – With an aging population, the country risks losing committed long-term residents who are essential for the workforce, tax base, and community life.
4. Principle of fairness – People who live, work, and pay taxes should not be treated as second-class for a decade before gaining full participation.
For these reasons, I strongly disagree with this bill.
