Changing the naturalization requirement from 5 years to 10 years is not a positive step. As a student who has been living and studying in the Netherlands for the past 4 years, I have built my life here with the aspiration to continue my studies, work, and contribute to the country’s future.Many young people like me came here with hopes of integrating, learning, and becoming long-term contributors to Dutch society. Extending the naturalization period risks discouraging students and young professionals who are making genuine efforts to assimilate and give back.It is important to differentiate between those who have come here legally, study or work hard, and strive to be part of the Dutch community, versus those who exploit the system without meaningful integration. We want to grow, live responsibly, and build our futures aligned with the Netherlands’ success.I kindly urge you to reconsider this proposal, so that dedicated young people who are committed to the country’s future have a fair pathway toward citizenship and belonging. Thank you.
