I would like to express my concern regarding the proposed change in the nationality requirement from 5 years to 10 years.

As a Highly Skilled Migrant, one of the main reasons I chose to move here was the combination of the 30% ruling and the possibility of obtaining nationality after 5 years of residence. These policies signaled that skilled migrants were truly welcome and encouraged to integrate into Dutch society.

However, both of these conditions have already been altered — the 30% ruling has been reduced, and now the extension of the nationality requirement from 5 to 10 years is being considered. These changes make it difficult for migrants to plan their long-term future here and create a sense of instability in the policies that initially attracted us.

If this change is implemented, it will send a strong signal that migrants are less welcome. Personally, it would make me reconsider my decision to stay, and I believe many other skilled migrants will feel the same.
