I disagree with the idea of extending the Dutch naturalisation requirement to 10 years. The current 5-year rule already provides a fair and reasonable framework for people to demonstrate their commitment to the Netherlands.

Many residents who have lived here for years have built their lives around this expectation. They work, contribute through taxes, raise children who are fully part of the Dutch education system, and actively participate in society. Extending the requirement would disregard these contributions and the stability people have already created for their families.

A longer waiting time does not make someone more committed — it only delays recognition of the efforts and responsibilities that people are already fulfilling. For that reason, I strongly oppose the extension to 10 years.
