Many skilled professionals have chosen the Netherlands over other countries because they believed they could apply for Dutch citizenship after five years of living and working here.
These individuals have been contributing to Dutch society for years, paying taxes, integrating into the community, learned the language, and earned their inburgering diploma.

They made a conscious choice to build their lives here, to belong here. They are valuable members of society who strengthen the Netherlands both socially and economically.

Now, with the proposed change to extend the naturalization period, many of them feel deeply discouraged and disheartened. It feels unfair to change the rules for those who have already built their lives based on the current conditions, and will be not a good idea for the Netherlands as many highly skilled people may leave and many potential one would choose other country rather than The Netherlands to move in.
