Hello,

As two independent HSM visa holders who have chosen the Netherlands as our long-term home, my wife and I are concerned about the proposed extension of the naturalisation term from 5 years to 10 years.

We are integrating into Dutch society in meaningful ways — we contribute to the economy through our work and taxes, we are investing in the country by purchasing a home, and we embrace Dutch traditions and culture in our daily lives. The opportunity to become citizens is not only about legal status, but also about deepening our commitment to the Netherlands and ensuring our voices are represented in its democratic processes.

Extending the path to naturalisation by an additional 5 years feels disheartening. It delays our ability to fully participate in society, despite our ongoing contributions and integration efforts. We kindly request that the government consider the impact this change would have on highly skilled migrants like us, who are committed to making the Netherlands our permanent home.

We appreciate your time and consideration, and we hope our feedback will be taken into account as part of the decision-making process.
