As a Highly Skilled Migrant who came to the Netherlands to study in 2019 and has since built my career in the Dutch high-tech sector, I strongly oppose extending the naturalisation requirement from 5 to 10 years.

This change would discourage international students and professionals from staying, weaken the country’s ability to retain global talent, and delay true integration for people who already contribute through work, taxes, civic participation, and family life.

The current 5-year period is already sufficient to demonstrate commitment to Dutch society; doubling it risks making the Netherlands less attractive, less competitive, and less welcoming to the very people it needs to secure its future prosperity.
