I strongly object to the proposal to extend the naturalisation residence requirement from 5 to 10 years.
As a highly skilled migrant, I built my life and future plans around the 5-year rule. I was preparing to apply for citizenship next year, and this sudden change disrupts everything I have worked towards. It creates a sense of insecurity and discouragement, despite the fact that I am already contributing to Dutch society through my work, taxes, and daily life here.
I kindly urge the government to reconsider this proposal, or at least ensure that people who already came under the 5-year expectation can still apply under the current rules.
