As an expat who chose the Netherlands for my family’s future three years ago based on the existing rules, I am opposed to changing the passport validity from 5 to 10 years. Such a sudden change feels unfair to those of us who rely on stability and predictability in the system. Other countries are also competing to attract expats, and decisions like this may reduce our trust in building a long-term future in the Netherlands. Keeping the 5-year validity is fairer and better reflects the realities of expat life.
