I strongly disagree with the idea of extending the residence requirement for Dutch citizenship to 10 years. Such a change would be unfair and counterproductive. The current 5-year rule already provides sufficient time for immigrants to integrate, learn the Dutch language, and become part of society. Extending it to 10 years would unnecessarily delay their ability to fully participate in Dutch democracy, including voting rights and equal opportunities.

Longer waiting times would not strengthen integration — on the contrary, it risks creating frustration, inequality, and exclusion for people who are already living, working, and contributing to the Netherlands. Citizenship should be an instrument of inclusion, not a barrier that keeps people apart.

For these reasons, I strongly oppose any extension of the naturalisation period to 10 years.
