My family and I came to the Netherlands in October 2021 as knowledge migrants. One of the main reasons we chose to move here was the possibility of applying for Dutch citizenship after 5 years of residence. Based on this rule, we have planned both our personal and professional lives.

Extending the requirement from 5 years to 10 years would create uncertainty and frustration for people who are already living in the Netherlands, paying taxes, and contributing to society. Such a sudden change would cause serious difficulties for families like mine.

In my view, if the law is changed, it would be much fairer to apply it only to new arrivals, not to those who have already been building their lives here under the current rules.
