Extending the naturalization period from 5 to 10 years is not a policy that strengthens the economy or society. Migrants already work, pay taxes, and build their lives here after 5 years. Delaying citizenship only postpones their full participation, business creation, and long-term investment.
Supporters claim it improves integration, but in reality extending the term often creates delays in language learning, since migrants postpone courses and exams until closer to eligibility. There is no solid evidence that doubling the waiting period improves outcomes — it looks more like a populist statement than a solution. However, making integration exams harder seems more valuable in this case.
The true cost of this policy is hidden: weaker economic growth, lost talent to other countries, and a society where contributors are kept waiting for equal rights. Integration comes from inclusion, not delay.
