The extension of the time period to 10 years would strongly discourage talent from settling in the Netherlands, in industries that need the talent and cannot source it locally, which cannot be ignored. This change would essentially send the message the immigrants focused on settling and contributing to the country are neither wanted nor appreciated. Those without European citizenship would have to live for 10 years without the security of citizenship, and will likely seek to move to countries where they would be welcomed.
