While I understand the government's intent, I do not support the bill to extend the naturalization term from 5 to 10 years. The current 5-year period is a reasonable duration for demonstrating commitment and integration. More importantly, this change poses a significant economic risk. In a competitive global market for talent, extending the path to citizenship to ten years will make the Netherlands a less attractive option for highly skilled immigrants, directly leading to a decrease in their numbers and harming our innovative capacity and economy.
