Thank you for providing this forum to consider the perspectives of residents. As an expatriate, I understand the reasoning behind extending the naturalization period to 10 years. However, I respectfully believe that such a change should apply only to future immigrants. Current residents made their decision to settle here without prior knowledge of this adjustment, and in many cases, might have chosen another country had this been clear. Personally, I am approaching the completion of my five-year residency and was preparing to apply for citizenship; therefore, this proposed change comes as both unexpected and concerning.
