Dear Sir/Madam,
As a highly skilled migrant who has been legally residing and contributing to the Netherlands, I would like to share my concerns regarding the proposed extension of the naturalisation term from five to ten years.
- I have been living and working in the Netherlands under the Highly Skilled Migrant scheme, with a stable high gross household income.
- I own home property in the Netherlands, which reflects my long-term commitment and investment in Dutch society.
- My partner and I are fully integrated, paying taxes, contributing to the economy, and actively participating in local communities.
The proposed extension to ten years creates uncertainty and discourages long-term commitment from skilled professionals who are already deeply invested in the Netherlands. For individuals like myself, who demonstrate financial stability, integration, and contribution, the five-year term provides a fair and balanced path to citizenship.
Suggestions:
1. Maintain the five-year naturalisation term for highly skilled migrants, entrepreneurs, and individuals with proven long-term investments in the Netherlands. Atleast consider the exception who are dwelling in The Netherlands since 2021
2. Alternatively, introduce a differentiated pathway where those who meet higher integration and economic contribution thresholds (e.g. B1 Dutch, property ownership, stable high income) may still apply after five years.
3. Ensure that the Netherlands remains competitive in attracting and retaining global talent by offering a clear and fair route to citizenship for those who contribute significantly.
I respectfully urge the government to consider the impact of this proposal on the attractiveness of the Netherlands for international talent and to safeguard a balanced approach that rewards integration and contribution.
Sincerely,
Vicky
