Many people moved here with the hope of living happily, buying homes, and starting families, only to be told unexpectedly that they must now live at least 10 years before gaining Dutch citizenship rights. This does not seem fair. If this requirement had been communicated earlier, individuals might have chosen differently. While the regulation may be necessary, it should apply to new arrivals from the date of enforcement, not to those who have already spent years here expecting citizenship
