I do not believe that changing the requirement for obtaining Dutch citizenship from 5 years to 10 years is a good decision.

Many expats in the Netherlands are highly educated professionals who bring valuable skills, knowledge, and innovation to the country. They contribute significantly to Dutch industries and the economy without creating a financial burden for the government, since their education and training were obtained abroad.

These individuals are often deeply engaged with Dutch society, culture, and values. They integrate successfully, learn the language, and actively participate in communities. In many ways, they are already model citizens who enrich the Netherlands both socially and economically.

Extending the path to citizenship would make it more difficult for such people to fully commit to the Netherlands. Instead of encouraging long-term settlement and loyalty, this policy risks discouraging talented individuals who might otherwise choose to build their lives and families here.

For these reasons, I believe keeping the requirement at 5 years is fairer, more inclusive, and more beneficial for the Netherlands as a whole.
