As a Highly Skilled Migrant who has lived and worked in the Netherlands for 2 years, I am contributing my skills, paying taxes, and integrating into society. Extending the naturalisation period from 5 to 10 years makes it far less attractive for skilled professionals like me to commit long-term. If such a change is implemented, I would strongly consider offering my expertise in other EU countries that provide a clearer and more welcoming path to citizenship. This risks the Netherlands losing international talent that is essential for innovation and competitiveness.
