I am opposed to this proposal because I believe that it will result in a greater number of people continuing to smoke highly toxic and addictive combustible cigarettes. This proposal would be a severe blow to the independent nicotine vaping industry and strengthen the hand of the big tobacco companies. If big tobacco were to gain sole control of the nicotine vaping market, then it would be in their interest to let it wither and die, not least because up to 50% of those who switch then go on to give up vaping as well. For those that continue to vape in order to keep off combustible cigarettes, I am persuaded by the finding of Public Health England that vaping is at least 95% safer than smoking, so the gain in public health is still considerable. In the case of youth vaping, I have heard the vaping products of big tobacco companies mentioned dominantly. Please do not sabotage the independent vaping industry, they are a worthy opponent of big tobacco, a broad range of flavours is an integral part of the success of this movement. A healthy independent vaping industry will help considerably in keeping big tobacco and big pharma honest, as they move into the vaping space!
