As long as the label “terrorism” is used subjectively, “glorification of terrorism” should not be punishable.
Regular criminal law has all the means to tackle any form of criminal behavior. Currently, "terrorism" is only applied to certain undesirable groups of people. Similar actions by allies are condoned or even supported. This constitutes a double standard and encourages arbitrariness. Criminalizing "glorification of terrorism" thus provides an additional lever to wield against protests and actions that the government refuses to listen to. This is a further infringement of our right to demonstrate, a trend Amnesty has been warning about for years.s
