??Freedom of speech in the Netherlands is protected by the Dutch Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights, to which the Netherlands is a signatory. This proposal sets a dangerous precedent through its vagueness that will serve to effectively muzzle the decades long movement for justice in Palestine, which has grown to its largest base, threatening the interests of the Netherlands and its alignment and enabling of the impunity of the Israeli state. Allowing such blatantly partisan crushing of dissent goes against the core values freedom, equality, and solidarity enshrined in the Grondwet, in particular, Article 7: Freedom of expression; prohibition of censorship. ?
Must we remember The 1990 United Nations General Assembly Resolution 45/130 Importance of the universal realization of the right of peoples to self-determination and of the speedy granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples for the effective guarantee and observance of human rights, which “Reaffirms the legitimacy of the struggle of peoples for independence, territorial integrity, national unity and liberation from colonial domination, apartheid and foreign occupation by all available means, including armed struggle;” ?
Must we remember that Nelson Mandela’s name wasn’t removed from US terrorist lists until just a few days before his 90th birthday in 2013?
In the midst of continued genocidal campaign in Gaza, where over 60 000 people were killed by Israel, including 238 journalists, 295 UN workers, 1400 health workers, and 18 000 children (since October 7, 2023), would support for the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) not constitute public support for terrorism?
I am shocked by this very proposal and demand as a contributing member of dutch society that this it be invalidated. The Netherlands must rise to its obligations and constitutional values and stand on the right side of history, rather than repressing civil society voices that are upholding the very values the state government purports.
