The Netherlands government is planning to ban Withania somnifera in food supplements. There is no scientific basis for such a ban. Withania somnifera has been used in India very widely for centuries, even millenia, and its safety is well known. Personally, in over 40 years in Ayurvedic medical practice, I have not seen toxic effects of this herb, nor have any of the many collegues with whom I am associated. I am attaching a press release and scientific documentation from the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, in this matter.
